I no longer work at the coffee shop, and I really miss serving customers who, like this lady, leave such happiness in their wake. Thanks for telling this story, RG.

savannah--Some day, very soon, I am coming to visit your fair city. We WILL toast life over dinner, okay?

Jenni G--Hope it was a great shift.

LanaWood--Would that we could all be this wonderful lady.

last one home--In this case, in this one great moment of restaurant work, I think one great restaurant god striving to get his micros card sent this good, good women to my store.

rdler--okay, get me an agent, stat! :)

Linda S--We should all be her.

Ksue--Thank you!

L--Why write fiction when the truth is so much better--because I wrote this exactly as it happened.

What a lovely woman. You told that story really well. I have the feeling that she has learned the lesson that we all should, that life is what we make of it. That we should let the small things go, and to be kind to those around us. I think that can be one of the benefits of aging. I'm less impatient, I find it easier to say I'm sorry and thank you than 10 years ago.

I do love your writing, RG. I am now up to Aug. 2007 and I've read every blog and every comment, checked all links, and listened to your interview. I've told myself to go slower because I love seeing the story unfolding.

Restaurant Gods--plural not singular--they are Pagan Gods and they are stern Gods, normally not known for sending in the wonderful old woman. They normally send the drunken Guido, the crazy Eastern European, or the anal-retentive OCD complainer. But, we pray to them anyway, because in an unusual backward twist, they send US offerings--of cash.

I love this story. This is the kind of little old lady I want to be, I suspect part of being this kind of little old lady is being a grown up without forgetting how not to be. It also made me feel happy about thinking about my Mom who was really a pretty neat and fun person, and who I saw do this kind of thing many times.
