We're a lot alike, you and I. Our stories are much the same. I know it's not easy dealing with the guilt of breaking up a marriage. Much less when you're trying to deal with a new relationship. Best of luck.

So, the Keys instead of Colorado? About as far away as you can get from there. Hope you have as much fun as it looks with UW.

South Florida sounds like it was REALLY not the right place for you - enjoy the Keys. Living in the Chicago area and already getting more than twice the normal amount of snow for December makes me really wish I could join you!

"It's Christmas, Theo, it's the time of miracles." - Hans Gruber, Die Hard.

The holidays are hard for a lot of people. But with family (and Mickey), you are doing better than most.

Peace and joy to you.

May the change of pace and scenery help you to find peace. May your holiday season be filled with friends and family both near and far who support you in all you do.

Half of a quarter bushel is of course, an eighth bushel. I Couldn't help but point that out. ;)

We've all been there and it does get better. It's like dealing with the death of a relationship and you have to go through the steps of grieving.

Here are some rules that helped me separate the good from the bad.

1. The 'nuts about you' rule. If he is nuts about you, he will do what it takes. No game playing, no stand ups...he will do what it takes to make sure you know he is interested. I don't know if the 'one day at a time' comes from you or from him...but if it's from him, then he's not nuts about you. However, if he follows you to the keys, then maybe he is nuts about you.

2. The 'if only' rule. If you really like the guy but have the 'if onlies', he is not for you. If only he would call more often....if only he would do this.....if only he would do that...then our relationship would be perfect! If you feel that way, he is not the one. He is what he is and you have to accept it. The behavior will get worse, if anything so you better like him 'as is'.

There are no mistakes - just a lot of learning opportunities and this way when the right one comes along, you will know it in your gut.

I'm sitting here hiding in my cubicle at work ... dazzled by your words. Well, your loyal readers will follow you too when you move to the Keys. I want to see "what you see" while working in an every -day -kind -of diner-place. Have a beautiful Christmas RG.

My beautiful caring and loving boy couldn't deal with life and told me he wasn't in love with me anymore. (he also dropped out of school, moved home, and quit his job... I wasn't the issue, I soon realized) I cried for weeks and didn't eat much for the first three days. I lost 15 pounds (which I'm putting back on happily) and my best friend. I'm getting my best friend back... but the hurt is still there. Knowing he has a temporary 'visitor' for a week (we're friends K, just friends), then wants me to join him for his next adventure... hurts even more.
I don't know why they put us through this and why we put ourselves through it either.
The pain is always real and sore and there.
I think you're doing the right thing and I wish you all the best!
