Sorry, I did a stupid thing. I thought I had erased that first draft after spell-checking it.

Alas, the perils of online communication.

You really handled that well. I initially thought they were just being pushy, but I understand what they wanted now. I've been in situations like that, and it does feel good to help make someone else's day better, even at the expense of your own time.

I recall a time I was working takeout at my restaurant, and a woman walked in. She was in the Navy, had just arrived in town and was looking for a hotel and some food. Although it was nearly closing time, I waited for her to go to the bank to get some money, since she didn't have enough for what she ordered. When she came back she asked if I knew if any of the hotels nearby offered discounts for soldiers. I didn't, but as she waited in her car for her food I made a few calls to hotels we delivered too. One said they did, but was still pricey, the other had just one low rate that was still higher than what she was looking for.

When I brought her food out I told her the information I had gotten, and recommended another area with hotels that I knew were less expensive. She seemed genuinely happy that I helped her, and she tipped me big, despite my protest.

I love your blog, by the way, and I encourage everyone to try to find some way to help someone else out. It really is a good thing.

Another outstanding post. There is always something to be said about the person who goes above and beyond the call, when so many are content to shrug it off with, "not my job." You constantly go above and beyond and then you get great rewards like this particular day. Tell me why again it is that we all aren't like you?

Most people would have seen this as an imposition, an inconvenience, yet another pain in the backside. You turned it into a celebration of FAMILY. I like that.
