I know, I know.
Enough of the angst, the doubts, the chaos. The moods.
Give us stories! I hear ya.
I just don’t have them, yet, because I am trapped on a treadmill of battling the other assistant manager and sous chefs for computer time, doing payroll, trying to put together private event information, and well, all the other administrative stuff I loathe and despise because it reeks of “office work.”
That said, the end is near. Effective tomorrow, my hours switch to the daytime. True, they will still be long, the administrative stuff still needs to be done, and my work week will likely still encompass six days a week, for now.
But I feel like sanity at least has the potential to return. Oh yeah, along with time to walk and gather my thoughts, time to connect once again with Mr. Restaurant Gal, and well, time to reclaim a tiny corner of my former life.
What I really look forward to, though, is starting lunch. I owned lunch at my former restaurant. The lawyers, the executives, the everyone else. I lived and breathed courting the crowd, making it happen with the guests. In other words, the fun.
Ultimately, that is what makes any of us stick with this business through everything else. Fun. Because if it isn’t fun, why do it?
I promise, it’s all just around the corner.
