Everyone’s Irish

Posted on Friday 17 March 2006

Having just survived greeting, managing, and planning seating for more than 650 people today at lunch, I have a couple of holiday greetings for a special few:

To the folks lined up at 8 a.m. to get into the Irish bar up the street: Wow! Long day, eh? I think you stopped by my place at 2 p.m.

To the two Sri Lankin gentlemen who were dressed head to toe in green and who asked for a table without a hint of a smile: I so wanted to ask you, “Hey, are you two guys really Irish?”

To the actual Irish gentleman dressed head to toe in green who told me I was “incredibly beautiful” three times: Um, thanks. Careful getting home this evening.

To the just barely legal group of young professionals who chose a booth in which to sleep it off: Okay, folks, if you can’t hold it together past 1 p.m., maybe you should stick to soda.

To the cute guys in shamrock ties who were celebrating in a totally civilized way: I have a single friend I would love to introduce you to.

To the wife in an elderly couple who wanted a booth near a TV so SHE could watch the first-round basketball games: Hey, I picked Montana, too! Too bad your husband didn’t.

To the bewildered regular customer who forgot it was St. Patrick’s Day, March Madness, and a Friday: I’ll make it up to you next week. Lunch is on me.
